Isuzu Motors, Nishi-Nippon Railroad, and Mitsubishi Corporation have commenced a joint demonstration test of a large self-driving bus at Fukuoka Airport. For about one month starting in March, one self-driving bus was introduced on the bus road that connects the airport’s domestic and international terminal (about 1.4 km) and made eight round trips per day. While identifying problems related to operational services and studying ways to realize a full roll-out in the future, the companies aim to help resolve various social issues such as labor shortages stemming from the declining birthrate and aging population.
