Kitakyushu Airport's runway extension to 3000 meters has been scheduled for completion by August 31, 2027. Since its opening as a maritime airport in 2006, the current runway length has made it challenging to take off with full cargo and fuel. The 500-meter extension will allow large aircraft to operate fully loaded flights to Europe and the Americas. The environmental assessment is next, with construction planned to begin this autumn.
