Anticipating a surge in EV battery waste post-2030, Fukuoka Prefecture has pioneered a resource recycling system for used EV batteries. The newly formed "Green EV Battery Network Fukuoka (GBNet Fukuoka)" includes participants such as Toyota Motor Kyushu, Nissan Motor, Itochu Corporation, I-PEX, and 4R Energy Corporation (Yokohama), which specializes in battery reuse. The initiative aims to extract rare metals like lithium, cobalt, and nickel from collected batteries with low residual capacity to recycle them as materials for new batteries.
