Sojitz and Mexichem Fluor to build Japan's largest fluorochemical plant in Kitakyushu

Sojitz, a general trading company based in Tokyo, and Mexichem Fluor, a major Mexican chemical company, are planning to build Japan's largest fluorochemical manufacturing plant in Kitakyushu. Fluorochemicals are used in semiconductor and lithium-ion battery manufacturing, but currently, Japan relies heavily on imports. The plant will produce 40,000 to 50,000 tons of fluorochemicals per year, meeting 30% to 40% of domestic demand, and establishing a stable supply system within Japan. Construction is planned to start in FY 2023, with completion scheduled for FY 2025.
