Japan-U.S. Collaborative Semiconductor Design Workshop Held in Fukuoka
The University of Michigan and Kyushu University jointly hosted a workshop on semiconductor design and talent development at the Fukuoka Institute of System LSI Design Industry in Momochihama, Fukuoka City. Amid growing importance of Japan-U.S. collaboration in establishing a semiconductor supply chain, this workshop aimed to address the challenge of fostering talent in advanced integrated circuit design, with support from the U.S. Consulate in Fukuoka. The event attracted around 70 participants, including industry professionals, university affiliates, and students from across Kyushu and Japan, with about 400 more joining online. The workshop featured lectures from faculty members involved in circuit design education and research at the University of Michigan and the University of Hawaii, as well as from Google representatives. Participants also had hands-on opportunities to learn semiconductor design using laptops.
