Nissan to Build EV Battery Plant in Kitakyushu NEW

Nissan Motor Co. will construct its planned electric vehicle (EV) battery plant in the coastal area of Wakamatsu Ward, Kitakyushu. The site was selected for its proximity to Nissan's production subsidiary, Nissan Motor Kyushu, located in Kanda, Fukuoka Prefecture, which accounts for more than half of the company’s domestic production. Nissan has also announced plans for the mass production of new lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries, with the new plant scheduled to begin operations in fiscal 2028. The facility will have an annual production capacity of 5 gigawatt-hours, with the batteries initially designated for Nissan's EV mini vehicles.
